Charles Wilp & Joseph Beuys

“Africa Tryptichon”, 1975

The Düsseldorf photographer Charles Wilp had a close friendship with the artist Joseph Beuys. In 1974-1975 the two travelled together to Diani on the Kenyan coast. On the beach Beuys drew his distinctive motifs, such as women and animal figures in the sand, and signed with his characteristic signature. Charles Wilp documented these ephemeral artworks photographically, which were developed some years later into several multiples by the two artists.
